On The Back Of Haiti, Knavish Freeloaders Want To Be Millionaires Poem by Hebert Logerie

On The Back Of Haiti, Knavish Freeloaders Want To Be Millionaires

On the back of the poor people, presidents have become millionaires
On the back of the people, shady senators have become millionaires
On the back of the poor, corrupt officials have become millionaires
On the back of poor Haiti, fiendish freeloaders have become millionaires
Haiti becomes poorer every hour, more splurging, suffering, and misery
On the back of the poor people, flies and rats are waltzing in the streets
The "gourde" is devalued every second, more misery, and more maggots
The wolfish predators get paid in US dollars, while relaxing and working in Haiti
They get perks for fish; this is scandalous. The people have no opportunity
To be healthy. They drink polluted water; their feet are drowned in the stinking mud
This is despicable. Flies are serenading huge chicken and turkey parts from abroad
Rats, mice, cockroaches and bed bugs are feasting, having ceremonies openly
The situation got to change; the people of Haiti are tired of suffering in filthy
Corridors. Dust, dirt, trash and mosquitoes infested tires are polluting the air
The elders are suffering, women crying and kids dying slowly. That's not fair
On the back of the people, corrupt presidents have become millionaires
On the back of the people, covetous senators have become millionaires
On the back of the people, countless officials have become millionaires
On the back of Haiti, their mercenary friends are now rich millionaires
On the back of Haiti, family members built tall luxurious hotels and palaces
While the National Palace of Haiti in ruin is using swears and unheard curses
Extreme greed and corruption, which know no moral values, have destroyed all hope
Of seeing long-term changes, better lives for the poor mass, the resilient people
The brave people are literally walking dead, too much poverty and malnutrition
It's clear; there is no future for desperate Haitians, who're fleeing the situation
The Haitian mass deserves more sustainable help, respect, love and compassion
The people demand justice, peace, better leadership, better policies and politics
Amid the saga, the Haitian Diaspora, which is more literate and alive, is powerless
The thing that they do is to send money to their starving relatives who have less
The people want land to plant crops. Telling the truth is a supercalifragilistic music
Which is a powerful weapon against greed. Stop splurging and let the people live
Haiti needs a break, a new spring season to prosper, to breathe. Let Haiti live free.

I have to give credit to my brother Poet Lawrence S. Pertillar for his curiosity in this poem. Because I had no intention to translate it from Haitian Creole into English.
