On this dappled silver shadowed dawn
you were in all my thoughts, were in my mind
and there was sheer loveliness in this morn,
without you to the beauty I was blind.
On different things my time I did spend
but in nothing could find any delight
and much too slowly along the day went
until the sheer black darkness of the night;
still I was lonely, you were out of sight.
