Cricket outside—
singing? sawing? jingling?
Just… itself… only.

I love poems with titles longer than the poems themselves! I think I know what you mean - some things just have no words to describe or compare them, right? I'm sitting outside in Italy. Cicadas are singing in the trees. My family can hear them too so I know they are real! I often use the term crickets or cicadas to describe the noise in my ears (tinnitus) . Maybe you've read my poem Sounds in the Night?

yeah, i like long titles too. past american poet laureate billy collins called my attention to them somewhere. thanks for your comment, laurie. sounds of the night sounds familiar, but i'll take a look again. -glen
