Once More Poem by Scarlett Charlotte

Once More

I’ve got your music in my ears
It swells and churns like moving water
But nothing worse than inevitable,
Air, filling my aorta.

Through my body like a vein
Or nerve with purpose and intent
I am filled with notes that strum
And boldly circumvent.

And yet your fevered eyes are closed
Light streams upon those brows
What crosses paths in mind and thought;
And to your quiet face endows.

They say the dogs will howl and moan
But hear me over this
It’s cold inside the empty mind
And warm, though never bliss.

The rain feels cold upon your face
You say it in your head,
You’ll have time for rain and earth.
Once you are dead.

When your bones don’t tend to move
And your eyes can ever stare
And silence rests lightly on your lips
Lips you never share.

Your mind debates on what you know
The greatest song is made too much
To rest the head and weary eyes
With strings and lightest touch.

Religion is a state of mind
That comes and goes; regenerates.
People don’t have faith to trust
But adhere to things they venerate.

Watch this as even I watch you
Timeless through my filthy eyes
And yours so like the whisp’ring wind
Tell only blue stained lies.
