Only Thorns Poem by Mehta Hasmukh Amathaal

Only Thorns

I filled my own tummy
And helped no hungry
My greed was stopping me
I was virtual prisoner and not feeling free

Mu future was unsecured
Nothing was assured
So I went on amassing the wealth
Keeping disregard of personal health

I ran blindly after material happiness
Soon after developed breathlessness
The life seems now full of thorns
At least it was first time warned

Who shall look after?
The thought simply crossed over
I had helped none
The happy days were over and gone

I have enough to last for some more years
But it has been flooded with fears
I feel the relatives shall cheat
And I shall be made to sit

Yes, I have planted only thorns
How can I expect mangoes in turn?
I will have to bear the fall out
The journey shall end abruptly

Only Thorns
