Open All Night Poem by Raj Dronamraju

Open All Night

I'm tempted to say Oh I've lost out again
And give the usual press conference by that same spot near the liquor cabinet
The legend sympathetico, in refrain is paradise not on offer
See that respect is lost on this audience
You are a goon who gets up too early in the morning
And looks for convenience stores that stay open all night
Skittles are my fantasy because the expanse of the future is now an all night convenience store
Where chili cheese dogs and giant sized soft drinks are the paradise offered
I've been beaten up and it's too early to sleep
And the thoughts are like headlights, they move towards you with bright intensity
Replace all the furniture in your living room because it's old and torn in places
And dust comes out the bottom and is troublesome to clean up
Obsess over that and remain open all night
Restlessly tossing and turning with your ambitions not realized in trees not left alone by a powerful constant wind
I knew her, she lived without form in an alternate space
This occupied my attention but did not occupy my space
In words, we bring out our turbulent unrealized identities
And they become constants on a prowl through the gaudy night
