Our Dark Companion Poem by Denis Mair

Our Dark Companion

Rating: 5.0

(in response to Chaled Res' painting 'THE BLACK MOON OF LOVE')
...... ... ... ... ...

People often muse on the barren companion that circles our world;

We even feel its desolation, exposed to outer space...

its inertness never soothed by rain, never able to incubate life.

In one lifetime we brush shoulders with such bleakness countless times.

In contrast, we know our planet's tenderness towards living things:

We breathe and move in our velvety blanket of air;

Yet the moon's unknowing darkness is also something sacred in our cosmos;

We hang it as a mirror, for lonely hearts to think of each other;

Looking up, we learn to cherish our garden home all the more.
