Overlooked Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Overlooked

It has always been puzzling for me to see,
Those who have trash loads of garbage...
Piled into heaps in their backyards.
Who seem to be the first to protest in the streets,
Publicly.
To complain about how things use to be...
As if to explain why changes to them they find,
Unnecessarily imposed.
And wish to keep things as they are.
Regardless if their irresponsibility,
Directly affects the lives of others.
With no showing of respect.
But wish to have their own neglect overlooked,
And accepted as a collection of historic artifacts...
Left on exhibit to rust the appreciation,
Of the entire neighborhood that degrades.
