Painted Turtle Romance Poem by Ima Ryma

Painted Turtle Romance

A painted turtle, I did fall
In love with an Illini girl.
And often to her I would call,
To give a life with me a whirl.
She liked my brightly colored shell.
Cupid's arrow took right on aim.
At last she just said, 'What the hell! '
And into the water she came.
And a shape shifting came to be.
No longer the tribe chief's daughter,
She turned into painted like me,
Two turtles bound in the water.

Be a painted turtle - females,
And skip painting your fingernails.
