Past Midnight Poem by Sonya Florentino

Past Midnight

Rating: 5.0

I'm not a young girl anymore
And life can't be undone
So why have you come back to me
When all my dreams are gone

I'm not the young girl I once was
Waiting on my knees
There's nothing more I want from you
And nothing I can give

I'm not a young girl anymore
With hopes and dreams awry
There's nothing left inside of me
Just ashes from a fire

I'm not that young girl I once was
My tears have all run dry
I don't know why you have returned
When I have said goodbye

I'm not a young girl anymore
My hands are turning cold
Soon I won't be feeling them
anymore

I'm not the young girl still in love
I've said my last goodbye
I'm sorry I have no more tears
left to cry

great poem, great writing. its such a shame that some boys leave their girls and regret it only when they see the woman that they could have had.

Oh Sonya! I just saw your comment about this poem and came to read it. It's so sad and forlorn and beautiful. Reminds me of Sara Teasdale in some ways, she had that forlornness in excess! So lovely, so poignant.
