Peak Hill Poem by keith brown

Peak Hill

Out on the old Newell Highway
There's a place or so I've been told
An old country town called peak hill
The little town with a heart of gold

Her roaring days maybe over
Turn the dray horses out there too stud
They no longer seek their fortune
In the gullies and down in the mud

Put a way the pan and the shovel
The miners tools of trade
In Peak Hills pubs and taverns
Spend the fortunes that have been made

Loadthe wheat out of the silo
On trains to where it's been sold
AlongTomigley to Dubbo
From the little town
 with a heart of gold
