Periodically Poem by Barry Van Allen

Periodically

Far and many years ago,
as things happened to us then,
what were then the facts of life,
seem better left to memories.

The facts do not support,
the conclusions that the years,
have bestowed upon indifferent minds,
as I consider life in rear - view mirrors.

These open eyes can see,
an open mind and open heart,
that is reflective, yet defective,
in recollection... from the start.

Those flavored yesterdays,
that for many years were truth,
became an everlasting emblem,
to the survival of my youth.

An antagonist may be,
the best friend that you've got,
at least there's basic honesty,
and that can mean a lot.

So many years ago,
and too many different roads,
too many friends that never were,
and not enough that should have been.

Better vision looking backwards,
decisions based on then horizons,
can lead to a tomorrow,
that wasn't really there.

It is the inventory of one's life,
that will lead to introspection,
and in due course, of course,
lead to the truth,
as you will come to know it.

Far and many years from now,
as things happen in our dreams,
those memories of real life today,
may be sweeter than they seem,
every now and then.
