Petals Falling From The Sky Poem by Mark Heathcote

Petals Falling From The Sky

Petals falling from the sky flutter like birds.
They don't know it's nearly nightfall. It's time to die.
They celebrate life like a flailing bird.
Knowing someplace is lying just ahead, they can rest.
Knowing there is a guarded stop in someone's house
They can nest and settle down.
After they've spiralled out of control all around,

Petals are falling from the sky.
Birds are flying high.
They don't know it's an old story about falling in and out of love.
They rejoice at the promise of a journey.
They're just hooked up with a current
A thermal rise on thin air.
A cliché, I guess, the answer to a prayer.

Petals falling from the sky flutter like birds.
I guess each one is an angel singing a chorus.
To a new song with new unspoken words.
