Petrichor Poem by Sylvia Frances Chan

Petrichor

Petrichor

I look at the sky
it starts to involve,
the whole sky becomes pitch dark,
predicted for weeks that it will be thunderstorms

only southern Limburg and eastern Belgium was flooded
really awful! about 200 people drowned,
swept away by the flowing water, so very fast,
cars and boats have also moved to distant regions,
but there is not a drop of rain in our place yet.

Heavy thunderstorm expected,
already said on TV for weeks,
but today I see that many trees are shaken violently by the wind, a whole row of trees at once,
it starts to look very spooky,
and then the lightning bolts,

I went inside the house,
from the kitchen window I see the hard rains pouring,
no rains for weeks, now petrichor everywhere,
I often smell this typical smell at home in Jakarta,
just after the rain,

so, that had been the storm,
fifteen minutes long, no thunderclaps
just a few bolts of lightning and....
that petrichor....
