Poems: Jades From Jacinth Poem by Aniruddha Pathak

Poems: Jades From Jacinth

Rating: 5.0

Like judging a stranger from clues and scratch,
Prospecting pearls of poems from vast ocean,
Picking from titles, whatso eye can catch,
Few would venture from hoary depths to learn.
Truth is: life and poetry lie far too beneath
Whilst we explore shallows, the rim and brim,
And choose a choice of sample, packaged myth,
And patience dies ere shows up choicest cream.
It is more so perhaps for a poem,
Yet, how many the patience spare to reach
Up to the core from the hallowed ho hum,
Who loves the depths of sea from fancied beach?
More to the point, from among scores of them,
Hard is amidst stones to pick precious gem.

This sonnet is born of a dilemma: There are scores of poems to choose from. No doubt there are gems among them. But there too are artificial pearls and stones. And there is too little time, too brief an attention span to read between the lines.
