Last night when stuck with a poem
Sleep possest me but no way out,
Poetry pursuing me in a dream,
No way in site winning a bout.
A dream call from poetry site
Made me a Poet Laureate—
An honour for a showcase quite—
A signal, I'd reached my best-before date.
Not finding ‘nough verve in my voice,
Was offered an altered status:
What ‘bout Poet Emeritus?
That made me mull over the choice.
Both titles sound like great credit,
In truth, at best still pejorative.
Emeritus is one out of merit—
A man on a retirement leave!
Both, a nice way to show one's age,
Suggest: it's time to turn the page.

Thanks for the good words. I simply emphasize that the words laureate, and emeritus are not quite honorific, as the perception is.
This poem has not been translated into any other language yet.
I would like to translate this poem
Both, a nice way to show the man his age, And suggest that it's time to turn the page.......impressive concluding. A beautiful poem with humor is well executed. Thanks for sharing.
I am glad you are clear about the poem dear KM, thanks.
