Poetic Shifts Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Poetic Shifts

How elementary can it be.
From one's birth to adulthood,
There is a probability of mistakes to make.
As the process of life,
Takes growth to experience.
With a moving on from discoveries.

Some remain enriched.
By their adventures to chance and risk.
While others may sit.
Rocked in cribs and stable cradles.
Condoning to never leave.
A comfort felt of this.
Feeling protected.
And the warmth they receive,
From being accepted.

Poetic are these shifts.
When lived to follow this natural process.
Without attempting,
To prevent or manipulate...
The blooming from a seed done.
Allowed to occur.
And nourishing yet not disturb,
Whatever direction the steps one takes.

Yet here we are today.
Witnessing the affects,
Of those misguided.
Depending on decisions,
Of others to them made.
Portraying a righteousness.
In the most hypocritical ways displayed.
Without thought but taught,
The doing of it must stay obeyed.

And in positions,
From where the pretentious sit.
Insist they do on limits that restrict.
The wishes and lives,
Of the ones less fortunate.
Although consenting to permit,
Those among the rich...
To pass their judgements while performing,
Every conceivable act of decadence.
With them decided to excuse.
Whatever done.
And whomever the participant is.
Be it natural, unnatural or lied to deny.
