Poetic Will Poem by Sara Militello

Poetic Will

Poetic Will

Ask a poet where comes their material
and he may answer thus:
oft' it's reality poets serve
when opting for their artistry
identifying each thought in full verve~

Reality viewed as a crafted universe
where poignant meaning is withheld
by a vaguely hostile world wont
to so overwhelm the senses
Love may prove unseemly and illusive.

Even outright disappointing, it being
so often underpinned
by derisive laughter of the Gods
pealing through ages ironic
with grand promises denied.

Ideals so oft' come to naught
a poet will paint that real thought
in poignant doubt, angst, pain
and stated in no uncertain terms
leaden emotionally...

Except when choosing to serve the dream.

Reality viewed as a crafted universe where poignant meaning is withheld' meaning lurks best in shadows, in the cold stark light of day, or where imagination best fits the theme
