There lived a man born very wise
and on the day of his son's birth,
He knelt with thanks and joyful eyes,
to plant a tree within the earth.
The boy and sapling grew together,
Sturdy, strong and wild and free;
In sunshine and in stormy weather,
Both flourished well, but naturally!
The man was then blessed with a daughter,
he planted once again a tree;
with gentle care he would water
and care for it...how tenderly!
The girl and sapling thrived and grew,
In lissom beauty and in grace;
Both blossomed sweetly to renew,
that gentle, loving, homely place.
But then, the children crossed the seas,
to learn new things and see new places;
The man, alone, fell on his knees,
Oh...how he missed their precious faces.
Beneath his trees, he lived his days
In quiet shade, humility,
In verdant glade, he would give praise,
at last regaining tranquillity.
And when the man grew old and died,
he was laid to rest beneath his trees
who trembled to the skies and cried,
and shed petal tears upon the breeze...

Roann, Quite nice! Children, once grown, leave and then you are left with your memories and the quiet in the room. I have added this poem to my favorite poem list. I rate a 11.
