Polly Perkins Whistles Up Memories Piercing Poem by Terence George Craddock

Polly Perkins Whistles Up Memories Piercing

Rating: 5.0

Polly Perkins
patrolled Westport
public baths
like a crack sniper;
waiting for hated offender
guilty of running
not walking
bomb diving;

other innocent
well behaved swimmers;
never stopped blowing
her bloody loud whistle;
the whole pool frooze
no running;
no bomb dives splashing
unless she wasn't looking;

but did you not know
you could bomb dive
with reckless immunity;
if you dived immediately
afterwards underwater
swam away safe lost;
among laughing screaming
crowds of constantly moving swimmers;

the blood hound
would hunt the fox;
but cunning fox
would turn seal;
underwater steal
away constantly;
till safe lost in crowds
where no betraying scent lingers;

Escaping Polly Perkins Whistle Blast Patrols what was the survival trick when escaping Polly Perkins whistle blast blowing patrols? to avoid getting caught sentenced systematically frog matched out of town public baths under a cloud of humiliation and henceforth banned from town baths the trick was to ensure the pool was crowded, to swim underwater changing directions for at least 30 seconds, surface briefly then dive underwater again and never surface and look back; too many kids to watch to keep hunting for the one that got away; the other kids enjoyed escapade escapes Polly probably appreciated the water rat challenge over multiple sherries during the night following; Copyright © Terence George Craddock

Very funny! Good thing she didn't have a polar bear's sense of smell!
