Potential Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Potential

Without determination and initiative,
Potential remaining to stay that way...
Has a lot to do,
To excuse one's unused motivation.
And without discipline,
Needed to initiate motivation.
Potential to recognize someone else has,
Is an attention given to it...
That the one with talents and gifts,
Either takes this for granted.
Or enjoys it mentioned.
Just to sit and get noticed,
For what one says they can do.
Among others who too,
Will convince without evidence...
Or proof that proves,
A potential to claim it...
Has an effort sustained.
With endeavors produced.
To then have that potential witnessed.
Since there is a difference between,
Potential claimed and potential seen.
And having the experience,
To know and not talk about what it means.
