Power By Proxy Poem by Aniruddha Pathak

Power By Proxy

‘Inner voice, sacrifice', you may quote,
Say, I care for no chair, let them note,
Say not, chair's warmed for heir,
Blames, crown of thorns to bear,
And never talk about my remote.

The veil has lifted at last from a remote control of the Chair Person of a party in power for two terms. Enough is exposed in a book: The Accidental Prime Minister by his Press Secretary. The halo carefully cultivated has gone; gone has the air of inner voice of conscience; that she cares for no power and all false air of renunciation. It was power without accountability; she wanted to be a king-maker rather than king. The king was a rubber stamp. This piece depicts how she might brief her Press Chief to project her image.
