You, the flower of life,
Created in our image,
Nurtured in my womb.
Outside talk was about a blue boy
Inside a pink girl quietly budding
Tuning up for that life-affirming cry.
A bit of joy and anticipation felt
during the somber season of Lent.
The sun painted the sky with pinks
and the sunset with oranges
Buds flowered and perfumed
Feet tapped in spring's raindrops!
You're out of that small world and into yours
hardwired with certainties and uncertainties.
You, the apple in our eyes and the twinkle in stars
the scent in flowers and the sweetness in hearts
You, the rose, laughter-loving princess of all.
You, the smart teenager and young-adult who knew what
to say and whether or not to say it.
You, the silent cheerer of your smartness in high school;
the hooray National Honor Society student.
You, the quiet book prowler that prowled you late in
the quietness of nights.
You, in quietude broke a few rules, and too graduated from
high school with honors.
You, the hooray-for- your- college -years, and a professional
Occupational Therapist.
The hooray for your first job, your beautiful wedding,
a beautiful baby girl followed by cute twin girl!
The hooray for your divorce, standout single Mom in dread
silence learned to fight and not flight.
You, in spite of your plight, got back on your feet
like a knocked down horse, and cleared the path
of each encounter and situation one-by-one.
Your door is always open and don't think somebody won't
try to take advantage of it
Your heart is always open and don't think somebody won't
try to take advantage of it
You have a particular kind of courage:
a way of not being afraid of feeling courageous;
The jump- into- the -dark -kind of bravery; and
are mindful that all things are not "Eye Level"
Praise to you:Alchemist. Beautiful Monarch Butterfly!
Let us celebrate your special day: Pop the cork, have
a glass of wine, grab a knife and fork and dine.
Hit the floor, dance every round and every sundown….
