Pretending Poem by Loraine Lotter

Pretending

She, who lives her days pulling happy faces,
draws smileys on everything she sees.
Pretty and oh-so-smart, inside she’s ripped apart.
No one knows what’s hiding underneath.

But don’t worry about her, I’m sure she’s just confused,
‘cause what the eye can see the heart won’t lose.
Don’t you stay up watching, don’t you call for help,
‘cause nothing you can do will ever make her tell.
She’ll come around herself.

I’m sure it will pass by, oh, she just needs time.
to realize that there’s more to life.
Someday, she’ll wake up again
with the voice of reason inside her head,
saying:

Don’t worry about it, I’m sure you’re just confused,
‘cause what the eye can’t see the heart won’t lose.
Don’t you stay up waiting, don’t you call for help,
‘cause nothing they can do will ever make you tell.
No, you’ll come around yourself.

When love has brought you so far down you cannot sleep,
and life has thrown all its badness at your feet,
it’s never too late to stop pretending.
No, just stop pretending!

So don’t worry about her, I’m sure she’s just confused,
‘cause what the eye can see the heart won’t lose.
Don’t you stay up watching, don’t you call for help,
‘cause nothing you can do will ever make her tell.
Oh, she’ll come around herself.
Don’t worry about it, I’m sure you’re just confused,
‘cause what the eye can’t see the heart won’t ever lose.
Don’t you stay up waiting, don’t you dare call for help,
‘cause nothing they can do will ever make you tell.
No, you’ll come around yourself.
Oh, I’ll come around myself.
Come around myself.
Yeah, I’ll come around myself.
