Pride Poem by Lamina Ifeoluwa

Pride

Rating: 2.5

*Pride: THE ONE TIME KING*
Shoulders high, blazing and cruising without course
Neurones explode above threshold propels actions without choice
Feelings of Ascension mixed with a lift to cloud nine
Feels the vessel and immediate atmosphere at large
Your lordship gets worshipped; you stare at others tagging them your puppet
You get enthralled at a little sight of snippet

_The apparel doesn't always last_
_It gets burnt when the die is cast_
_Picking up the scraps is one so arduous_
_Compared to humility, one so sumptuous_

Got a fat bank status, wealthy spouse or gregarious achievement?
That makes your mind and brain race slower than your tongue
Do you occupy a vast niche of management?
Which gives you so much alacrity and clothes you like a monk.

_The more you look the less you see_
_If bloods and crips can reconcile, why can't we? _
_The jargons you spat to taint a soul_
_And clouded judgements you declared with thinking though_

Don't say you weren't a part of this
Your worst mistake is whose butt you kiss
The devil isn't as black as painted afterall
Stop making yourself a one time king....*Mr Know all! ! !

Lamina, I like your confident and brave handling of different tones and diction in this poem. I'm bothered by some strangely distorted lines (lines 2,3,6 for example) . Are you an ESL poet? To improve, maybe stop writing for a bit (I sense you are prolix) and immerse yourself in good contemporary verse in English (Billy Collins? Rita Dove?) If you have time, check out my new website: jeffersoncarterverse.com Tell me how you like it. Yrs, JC
