Prince Philip - Goodbye To His Royal Highness Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

Prince Philip - Goodbye To His Royal Highness

Walk thro' the gates of peace O' Royal Prince and find solace
as many years of life that you spent on this earth
were so filled with gentleness and your grace;
Your charming smile was always
like a lily flower blowing in the breeze!
O' Prince of joyous earthliness and sovereignty as blessings,
your courtesy was so explicit and exquisite until the very end;
where will there be a prince again
striding in any palace with humbleness like yours
amidst all the grandeur and splendor around him?
Where would nobility breathe the same air
and still live and love and mingle with others so perfectly?
With a smile on the face and a hat on your head,
you were always so charismatic, always so dutiful
in all your commitments until age prompted a retirement!
A Royal Air Force pilot, polo player, a yachtsman,
yet a down to earth prince,
no world will ever see or encounter again!
Your broad shoulders depicting confidence and poise,
your outstanding endurance to social commitments,
and to your own family and people
for which no man can ever reward or repay you
as princes and kings are still husbands and fathers,
and though they are family men
they still adhere foremost to their dedictaion and duties
to their people and to their nation ardently.
And as all people looked up to you,
you were an epitome of selflessness,
as each day was so incredible
when each obligation you endured
with awesome simplicity and fortitude!
Will the angels ever stop to play their harp
to welcome the prince who lived and loved so well
while on this earth he walked
or will his Queen ever stop to grieve
for all the love and dedication he offered to her
in his entire lifetime that they spent together?
And for such love and dedication to her I salute him
and with respect I mourn for him today.
And in those wonderful ninety nine years of life,
will any one ever be able to fathom the love and pain
he silently hid in those amusing and bewildering eyes
as all kings and queens are also human beings
with their own share of joys and sorrows
with their own limits of victories and conquests?
And as you lived and adhered to nobility,
your courage and compassion
your politeness and willpower will be an embodiment
which will be read and remembered
by generations thro' pages
of memory and history forever.
