Prophecy Of Seasons Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

Prophecy Of Seasons

Who asked the summer to come
and swivel the heat and dust mightily around;
who asked the winter to last
and freeze every river and lake that is on the ground;
who asked the autumn to ruffle
and shed the leaves of those innocent trees
which deserve no penitence;
who asked the spring to bloom flowers
and unite lovers to feel a rejuvenation of joyfulness?
who asked the monsoons to pour
and encourage farmers to sow and reap rich harvests?
who asked the seasons not to recline upon each other
and continue its metamorphosis with
the passing of months in the years?
Who asked the world to ever stop spinning
and prevent the seasons from changing?
who asked man not to endure and withstand, not to outlast
and outlive every season?
who asked love and life not to join as two ropes
and enable man's optimism and confidence to go on?
who asked man to discard his fortunes and fortitude
which he holds and cherishes so ardently?
who asked time and years to stop the prophecy of seasons
which concurs adaptibility and existence as its reason?
