Project Maple Leaf Poem by Gayathri Seetharam

Project Maple Leaf

Project Maple Leaf
-Gayathri B. Seetharam
I decided to give up on my crochet project
To weave a maple leaf
For the crochet pattern is very much like
The Knitted Maple Leaf I made
Which stands for the well knitted Canadian society;

There is a decrease and an increase
In the making of parallel lines
Which make up the three parts of a maple leaf
And the crocheting is the weaving of its intricate pattern,
Thumbs Up, Canada;

The maple leaf tree has given shade and shelter
To happy and unhappy people
And nurtured its own kind
With the syrup coming from its bark
And it sings the tune of O Canada.
