Prime Ministers and their inspiring quotes
-Gayathri B. Seetharam
I decided to choose 5 liberal PMs of Canada beginning with Justin Trudeau
And include a quote on Canada by each
Hence, let us start at the very beginning,
A fine place to start,
Justin Trudeau, on winning the election,
Further wooed the Canadian people thus:
The people of Canada are kind, generous, open minded
And optimistic and know in their hearts that
A Canadian is a Canadian is a Canadian;
Jean Chretien, on the 50th anniversary of the D-Day invasion:
On the beach behind us, Canadians gave their lives
So the world would be a better place,
In death they were not anglophones or francophones,
Not from the West or the East, not Christians or Jews,
Not aboriginal people or immigrants. They were Canadians;
Paul Martin, during an important event:
In Canada, women's rights are a vital part
Of our effort to build a society of real equality -
Not just for some, but for all Canadians,
A society in which women no longer encounter discrimination
Nor are shut out from opportunities open to others;
Pierre Elliot Trudeau, spoke to the hearts of the Canadian people as his son does:
What the world should be seeking
And what in Canada we must continue to cherish
Are not concepts of uniformity but human values,
Compassion, love and understanding;
Lester B. Pearson said of peace although he had fought in the war:
Of all our dreams today
There is none more important -
Or so hard to realise - than that of peace in the world,
May we never lose our faith in it;
Inspired by their living and dead souls and minds,
I say that a Canadian is a Canadian is a Canadian
Because he or she believes in being unique
And not conforming into a pre-set pattern or a mould
Of cookie cutter hearts but despite Canada's encouragement
Of multi-cultaralism, it might be nice to have a pipe dream, an unified religion
For it would unite rather than divide but encouraging human uniformity would
Bring back Nazi principles and a nation like Canada
Is built on love and not hate and bigotism.
