Prolonging A Breakdown Poem by Dawn Winters

Prolonging A Breakdown

You try to hide when feeling low
so the people around you will never know
you hold your sobs and your tears
you always have throughout the years
they call you tough and say your strong
but they can't see what you've hidden so long
seems as though everything happened at once
you may be strong but this packs a punch
a punch that knocks you off your ground
you've lost yourself and need to be found
you cry yourself to sleep at nights
but no one knows your fighting this fight
to them you are strong and always on guard
your losing yourself being strong is to hard
so one day you break your losing your cool
your on the edge of tears at school
your friends are confused your being to distant
for once your life has changed you ask 'what did they miss it? '
Your heart has been broken by your best friend
your brothers in jail he's lied once again
this time is serious they've convicted his crime
four years in prison is where he's sentenced for time
your friends talk of themselves never ask about you
your cracking so fast a breakdown is long over due
so finally you let go and drown in your tears
you've needed to do this many times through this year
times have calmed down your becoming normal once more
but now you will never prolong a breakdown like before
