Protected To Guard And Defend Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Protected To Guard And Defend

Enclosed.
Restricted to limits.
And...
Fenced.
In a self imposed pretense.
Are those with their noses,
Turned up and convinced.
Themselves to represent the chosen.
Isolated.
Within walled gated communities.
Prisoners of their own creation.
Protected to guard and defend,
Minds corrupted.
Living to believe immuned.
From a diseasing pandemic.
Shown not to be impressed at all.
Who flaunts what best to address it.
Or their ability to afford,
Any price to pay.
To keep them safe and further away,
That delays a crushing of reality to face.

"Those...people."

-Which...people? -

"You know.
The ones poor, disadvantaged.
Having the nerve to accuse us,
Of keeping them homeless, hungry.
Disinfranchised.
And unable to perform,
A social etiquette like we do."

-What about them? -

"They always seem to find,
Something to complain about.
Like a pandemic.
Can you believe it?
And now...
They've got the fake news media,
Giving them all this pointless...
And needless attention.
As if our lives,
Are also threatened to become affected.
Like we should be concerned and involved.
We do enough as it is,
Working as hard as we do providing image! "
