Protecting What Is Most Valued Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Protecting What Is Most Valued

Decadence represented is presented.
No longer to be questioned,
As to its importance.
In the lives of those,
Who regard decadence as an entitlement.

And shown to make this known,
By those picked to sit in positions...
Of leadership.
Doing their best to protect,
What they value.
Even if this means breaking the laws,
Of a once respected constitution.

Becoming no more than an inconvenience.
Proven from the 'top' house,
Down to the gutter.
Where ill repute,
And the rise of its kept popularity...
Today can not be disputed.
Since guarding it as precious as gold,
Is not a cynical exaggeration.
But a fact to behold and observed.
To be a choice the people have made,
That reflects their interpretation...
Of a greatness to have achieved!
