Public Displays Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Public Displays

Who really believes an all-knowing God,
To be 'Omnipresent, Omnipotent with wisdom.
With the power to bestow free will,
To a people claiming to represent God.
With faith maintained and scriptures read.
Said to be quotes written,
From chosen disciples chosen to listen.
Who accepts to believe God condones,
The fools we have made of ourselves.
And...
In public displays of absentminded lunacy.
To then spend fortunes,
On new ways to celebrated...
The greatness of our blatant dysfunctions.
Who is it that wishes us to believe,
God demands from us...
To place God first in our lives.
With it then to perceive,
Themselves not to be...
Thought of by God,
As having made the most creative mistake.
To leave God so embarrassed...
Even He,
From realms of invisible magnificence...
Will not intervene to have made known,
To admit He decided and alone...
This 'thought' of His was a good idea.
But the humor of it,
Many of His faithful...
Have taken too seriously.
To not recognize to realize the joke.

'Uh, Father...
Who Art Thou in Heaven.
Some of us are grateful to receive,
This blessing of life.
However...
Others have yet understood Your message.
Is it possible You can also allow them,
To see Your humorous side.
These folks are seriously celebrating,
Their own destruction.
In the most unbelievable creative ways."
