Pull For Freedom Poem by Glenn Ford

Pull For Freedom

Today I saw a dog on a chain, it seemed to me
No matter how hard he pulled he just couldn't get free
The poor thing looked desperate and angst
Pulling on that chain for all he was worth
His plight was the butt of the local kids mirth
But the dog pulled on oblivious of ridicule
His face was contorted with effort as he pulled on.
I watched him for a full ten minutes and not once
Did the dog falter. What tenacity, what unwavering commitment
To be free even though if he had pulled for an eternity
He would have remand shackled. Why didn't he just give up?
I would have done! But then that's me.

Just as well not everyone is like me, or where would we all be?
