Dad! When I was in school the teacher showed me a picture of a tree
I've never seen one of those before, tall and handsome and brown and green you see
Do you remember seeing a tree when you were young? My teacher says there were many
She says that they grew all over the world but now days there aren't any

What is a flower? With it's puny petals and stem
Just a cultivated weed to be crushed under foot
It is not exactly a precious shiny gem
Its just flora, not even worth a second look

Dear George of united a magician on the ball
Ball skills, balance, power, George you had them all
You struck fear in defenders hearts when dribbling down the wing
You would take the ball, score a goal and make the whole crowd sing.

She slouched into the off licence with a child in a pram
'I need some f***ing cider, ' she said, 'for my old f***ing man.'
'How many would you like? ' Said the, man behind the bar
She said, 'just enough to get him p****d, I'll have twenty ta.'

If only we picked pens and not guns when affronted
If only we used words and not fist when confronted
If only we spoke and not yelled when frustrated
If only we stayed clam and not enraged when berated.

And the wheel rolled on
Down and down picking up speed gathering no moss
Sweeping aside all standing in the way
Leaving deep ruts in its wake, all men at a loss

With these eyes I have seen the world and all of natures spendour
The ins and outs of everyday life and fools of either gender
Witnessed courage bourn from fear, and truth told in defiance
And acts of wickedness mean of thought and followers of blind compliance

The rain came today without warning, it soaked me through to the bone
Like the message I received about you and me left on the answer phone
The sky is grey in this month of May and the sun will not shine anymore
I am alone in this dreary old home, loveless and all on my own.

Constant pressure to be correct
Political correctness gone mad
When we write, they will dissect
Extracting words they deem bad.

Standing on the beacon, over ten thousand acres of land
With a light wind in my face I feel I have the world here in my hand
No one could be in a more beautiful place on a clear and sunny day
Looking over patchwork fields of emerald, watching lambs at play

The turning of a worm, a rare eventful thing
A crushing of the pride and a humbling within
The upper hand no more, one step taken back
Dominance curtailed, derailed from its track

The roads I have taken through years now gone
Followed well beaten paths and kept moving on
Some right, and some wrong, I never looked back
I headed forward on the precarious track

The day was dull and the rain fell down, I was shopping in the local town
A shriek rang out 'He's got a knife! 'I turned to see a man in strife
A robber had a blade out straight his eyes were full of greed and hate
'Give me your money! ' he yelled at the man, people hid and people ran

The Best Poem Of Glenn Ford

Where Have All The Trees Gone Dad?

Dad! When I was in school the teacher showed me a picture of a tree
I've never seen one of those before, tall and handsome and brown and green you see
Do you remember seeing a tree when you were young? My teacher says there were many
She says that they grew all over the world but now days there aren't any

What did they look like? Did they blow in the wind?
Did the leaves fall in the autumn or was it in spring?
How high did they grow? Did they sway to and fro?
Did they look pretty covered in winters first fall of snow?

Dad, teacher says they'll grow no more, she says the climate has changed forever
She says we're all poorer now and explained to us how we'll have to suffer together
I heard that there was a tree that grew as tall as a skyscraper
But they cut it down and mulched it up to make us all new paper

It would be nice to see trees growing proud and strong
Reaching up to the sky with their branches so long
But that's just a dream I know I'll never see
It's just a vision in a picture never to be reality for me

My teacher said there used to be birds that lived amongst the bows
They flew around from branch to branch but we don't have those either now
What are nuts and berries and fruit the trees all used to bear?
My teacher says they were things we could eat at the end of every year

Well do you remember seeing a tree when you were young then Dad?
The like of which I have just explained and a pleasure I've never had
What do you mean they died out long ago, long before you were born
Now I'll never know why we cut them all down and my heart will always be torn.
