1. On Virtue
RENUNCIATION
1. Transcience of Wealth
Those who spurn the second handful from their wives
When they relish delicious viand of six tastes,
will also be for gruel when poverty strikes.
So know you that wealth is transcient.
2. Fleeting wealth as the wheel of a cart
Share with kin the fair wealth you get
by toiling with the steering bulls.
The fleeting wealth never be with one for e'er;
It turns around as the wheel of a cart.
3. Ill-fate saps even the commanders to tumble down
The kings riding high on th' nape of elephants
In the shade of umbrella of victory
Are too saped to fall and ruin by ill-fate
And lose their wives to foes as captives.
4. Help the poor when you have pelf
Stable, Stable, know you that are unstable!
Give, Give you can when life and pelf are on top!
Gone, Gone, are the days!
Came, Came, the angry God of Death!
5.Hoard not even the pie to scale high.
Don't keep whatever in hand for future use.
Give to poor before you keel o'er, and scale high,
To escape the noose of the impartial God,
Who pulls you through the scorching desert.
