The rain falls
I lie awake in bed, listening to the soothing lullaby
I've heard it's supposed to rain all week
It feels perfect
Swaying in and out of limbo, my insomnia battling the rainfall
As usual, the latter wins
I fall into a deep, dark dream
Like falling down a covered well
The rain still drops to a low, steady drumbeat
I curl up in my blanket, pretending I am a turtle
Hiding away in my shell until the rain stops, so I can wake up
Suddenly, I am caught in a bush with long, slender leaves
Soft but deadly as I try to swim upstream
I am scared that I will drown, but as I jerk myself awake
I can see that the leaves are just my hair wrapping around my neck
I'm sweaty from struggling with myself
And outside, the rain still falls, beating out a lullaby
Great poem that deals with integrity and awareness, and great metaphors.
Outside, the rain still falls, beating out a lullaby. Very amazing imagery is drawn in this interesting poem. Wisely penned really...10
