Rape Is A Murder Poem by Rm. Shanmugam Chettiar

Rape Is A Murder

What is difference between being raped
And being robbed by a scoundrel by force
Except that the loss cannot be restored?

What is difference between being raped
And being knocked down by a bulldozer
Except that the scar cannot be removed?

What is difference between being raped
And being blackmailed by the trusted one
Except that the rage cannot but be buried?

The rapist can be anyone, any age:
An uncle in a strange situation
Or a strange brute on a lonely highway.

‘Fear of rape is a cold wind blowing
All of the time on a woman's hunched back.'
Be she any woman of any age.

Rape is a predatory act by man;
It is the murder of her modesty.
Castration better be the penalty.
