Red Velveteen, Wouldn't The Rosebuds Wish To Be

red velveteen wouldn't the rosebuds wish to be
thought the little girl colouring endlessly
in the afternoon while her mama

listened from the kitchen.
red velveteen.
it feels the same

indoor as out

she sang brightly of bright petals
all afternoon
red velveteen

why wouldn't Cinderella
choose that very shade
I would if I were her she sang

and wouldn't you sing
on a rainy, rainy afternoon
red velveteen

red velveteen
with a scattering of tiny pearls
if you were her?
