Wrapped in a blue flannel blanket
Lay a newborn baby boy
His parents took him home and laid him down
He was their pride and joy
Such a smile, and pitch black hair
They wondered what he would be
When he becomes 'the man'
His dad would like to see
His teen age years flew past
Just eighteen years or so
When he kissed his dad and mother
Then said, 'I'll have to go''
Our country needs my service
You understand I know
But we'll see each other once again
In about a year or so
They saw him depart from the airport
He sat by a window seat
Waving and smiling, he blew them a kiss
Prepared, for the fate he would meet
They met him at the 'Air Force' base
Where others, also stood in wait
For six Marines, (at a solemn cadence walked)
As they carried him through the gate
'Wrapped in a flag, ' lay a soldier boy
Who was escorted to his town
His dad stood at attention, and saluted 'the man'
Then they took him, and laid him down
