The sky around me glistens with the new sparkle of rain,
The ground beneath me is quaking in fear.
Their arrival is imminent as the air in front of me rips open,
And the souls of hundreds appear.
Old and new, the spirits soar,
And fly out of their resting places.
Every inch of me feels their energy,
Leaving no empty spaces.
The glimmer of colours from blue to gold,
Spill out of the flooding sky.
As the ghosts fill my senses and take control,
Or, at least, they try.
The newest ghosts are in familiar clothes,
And the oldest coming from long ago.
I wonder if they know what’s happening?
I wonder, do they know?
Some adult and some children,
All floating towards something new.
They aren’t the only ones along for the ride,
There are animals, well, a few!
Their eerie cries fill my ears,
And the ground begins to plea.
Asking the ghosts to be gentle,
Gentle as they circle me.
Standing in their midst, soaked to the bone,
Feeling as if time has slowed down.
A smile will not remove itself from my face,
How could I possibly frown?
Their glorious lift to the heavens is happening now,
And I was chosen to witness the affair.
Now I know what I am here for,
And for nothing else, could I care.
