Robert Burns, Born In Alloway 1759 Poem by Joyce Hemsley

Robert Burns, Born In Alloway 1759

Rating: 2.0

Today, twenty-fifth February,
is Robbie Burns Day.
Memories linger yet
of poetry in the Scottish dialect,
poems we shall never forget.
... ... ... ... ... ... ...

Robert and brother were farmers
when many Burns' poems were written.
He married, and continued at the farm
until his appointment as Excise Officer.
The most popular poem,
'The Red Red Rose' has been set
to music, and how beautifully it flows:

O, my love is like a red red rose
that's newly sprung in June
O my love is like a melody
that's sweetly played in tune.

May these four lines of a great poem
remind us once more of his wonderful
poetical score ~ and on this 2009
day of thanks, may we say 'encore' to
Robert Burns' Golden gift of Poetry.

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

I have a book of his poetry, scavenged from my grandmother's house when she died. His life was somewhat tragic, like many who are able to pen profound verse. I don't hear much about him, and his life story was very interesting.
