Sad Egret Because Of An Aborted Meal Poem by NHIEN NGUYEN MD

Warm weather stays longer this winter
Lawn grasses still have their dark green look.
Grasses spread like carpets on house yards
Green grasses also spread for miles on nearby hay fields.
I return home after attending mass.
By chance, I see a white egret standing near my koi pond
This bird is hungry and it looks for a morning meal.
Flying around, it has its eyes on my Koi pond.
It anticipated of having a special feast.
However, being startled by my coming car
It flaps its wing to take off in a hurry.
The bird appears to fly with extra weight on its wings
Its stomach is still hungry but is filled with sadness from an aborted meal.

CÒ BUỒN VÌ SẨY BỮA ĂN

Đông này, trời ấm lâu hơn
Thành ra mầu cỏ vẫn còn đậm xanh.
Cỏ xanh trải thảm sân nhà
Cỏ xanh đồng cỏ ngút ngàn dặm xa.
Lễ xong, tôi trở về nhà
Một con cò trắng cũng vừa tới đây.
Cò này, sáng đói, tìm ăn
Từ cao, cò đã nhắm đàn cá Koi.
Bao nhiêu tưởng tượng xa vời
Phen này hy vọng ăn no thỏa lòng,
Nhưng rồi, thấy bóng xe hơi
Vội vàng vỗ cánh, bỏ hồ cá Koi.
Cò bay, đôi cánh nặng hơn
Bụng thì vẫn đói, lòng buồn tăng lên.
