Safe To Serve A Distant God Poem by moon batchelder

Safe To Serve A Distant God

Rating: 5.0

it's safe to serve a distant god,
far easier to please
a deity removed in time and space.
than consecrate the fealty
reserved for gods invisible,
resolve instead to serve them
face to face.

to serve him as our fellow man;
the beggar on the street,
the foreigner whose name we
can't pronounce.
no temple, church or synagogue's
appropriate to serve the gods;
life's altar offers ample circumstance.

to be at peace with absent gods
is such a blissful state,
complacent in regard of our esteem.
but lacking the ability,
the god in every one to see,
reveals a blindness no one can redeem.
