Self Proclaimed modern Sadhus. Poem by Nabakishore Dash

Self Proclaimed modern Sadhus.

Rating: 3.8

Sadhus are supposed
to have renounced
the ordinary worldly
life we lead here.
Now a days are busy
in selling many items
to become big earners.

Have followers
to speak high of them,
knowing fully the realities
of their lives.
They are paid sycophants
to enhance Sadhu's fake
name, fame and motives.

Busy giving instructions
to lead righteous, pious life
full of rectitude.
Collect hefty amounts
from followers and audience
to spend their time
in luxury and opulence.

Some have built attractive,
fashionable temples
to worship idols and Gods.
Some have stored daggers,
guns and bombs
to kill protesters, dissenters
when caught by police squads.

Nefarious, inhumane
activities continue inside
the so called holy place.
Secret tunnels, chambers
are guarded by special
devotees to support
and hide disgrace.

Chicanery, adultery are
planned and implemented
with top aids
not to divulge secrets.
Political, administrative patronage
are sought by some sadhus
to flourish in exchange
of benefits.

They tour and travel
in and abroad to increase
their followers and ashrams
all over the globe.
Their mercenary motives
are much more than us
as they own fleet of vehicles
and use chartered plane.

They are not saints,
Yogis and holy men
to give us help and
proper advice we need.
One should act prudently,
Proceed cautiously before
becoming a bhakta
and willing to concede.

Dear Nabakishore ji, A poem that exposes the 'Sadhus' who wear an orange robe but are involved in all nefarious activities.
