Selfish Pretentiousness Suspected Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

To and for the many,
Who have given time, concern...
And their interests to others.
With nothing to expect in return.
Your good deeds done,
Should not become resented by anyone.
But here we are...
In these days to find,
Thoughtlessness and real crimes committed.
Are prioritized as if given permission,
As a way of life.

Anyone and everyone who volunteers,
A life to sacrifice for others to give.
First to think of others before themselves.
Are suspected to be selfish.
Seeking attention to get.
With a listening to hear,
Comments made that are negative.
How strange these times we live have changed.

There are many today who actually believe,
Those who show a giving of their interests.
Time and concern.
Could be much better shown.
With proof and evidence to make this known.

"Have you heard a word,
From the ones I have always witnessed...
Stopping to drop what it is they do.
Just to be by your side.
Leaving their own lives to prioritize.
Doing what they can to be here for you."

-No I have not.
And I suspect them of being selfish.
Thinking of themselves and no one else.-

"Are you concerned?
Or at least curious as to why? "

-Me?
They and not me seek that kind of attention.
And I'm not about to volunteer,
The doing of it to get them here.
No one will intentionally accuse me,
Of being that selfish and thoughtless...
Purposely.-

"I doubt if anyone who knows you,
Would 'intentionally' accuse you...
Of being that way at all.
Since you have already shown to make known,
Who and what it is...
Occupying your mind to prioritize.
Kept to value."

-Exactly.
My time is too precious,
For those who are selfish and pretentious.-
