Mukamal, bina-daag koi cheese nahin hoti
jo bhulaee nahin ja sakti:
sab se sundar ek pathar hai
jo paani se bhiga hua hai
***
Betahasha roshni
ya ankhoN pe kala kapDa -
doosroN ka dukh ne dekhnay k
bahut tareekay hotay hain
***
Betahasha icHaa:
hamaiN alag kar deti hai
jaisay khanay ki khushboo kahanay se
lohay ka jang lohay se
***
Bahut door ya bahut paas se
pahaDoN ki pukki taihaiN
baDi susheel lagti hain
***
Martay hue ki kuDkaDan
lagti hai k hum
lakDi k banay coat main
apni bahaiN daal rahay hon
***
Chakkar k kisi bhi nuktay se
is ki khinchaav ho sakti hai:
khawashaaiN jo poori nahin hoteeN
khawashaoN k chakkar main paD jaati hain
***
Us kamary main jahan
kabhi kuch bhi nahin hota:
khushboo tambaakoo ki boo aati hai
***
BuDapay main jab haath
jukaD-mukaD jaatay hain
apnay waladaan ki yadasht kartay hain
***
Khyal apne hamlay k kabal rakho
nahin to
akalay hi akalay reh jao gay
***
SENTENCINGS
A thing too perfect to be remembered:
stone beautiful only when wet.
***
Blinded by light or black cloth—
so many ways
not to see others suffer.
***
Too much longing:
it separates us
like scent from bread,
rust from iron.
***
From very far or very close—
the most resolute folds of the mountain are gentle.
***
As if putting arms into woolen coat sleeves,
we listen to the murmuring dead.
***
Any point of a circle is its start:
desire forgoing fulfillment to go on desiring.
***
In a room in which nothing
has happened,
sweet-scented tobacco.
***
The very old, hands curling into themselves, remember their parents.
***
Think assailable thoughts, or be lonely.
