Sepulchre Poem by Brett White

Sepulchre

Rating: 5.0

Her eyes are like a sepulchre gently calling me,
They invite me to stay for all eternity...
Locked behind a door from which no soul escapes:
The lowliest of dungeons within Hell's estates.
So I choose instead to quietly walk away,
And to retain my dignity for another day,
For if love be love it shows sweet mercy,
Asking for nothing but you and the earth below me.
Pride and love are always light-years apart,
And true love will not suffer itself to depart
From the object of its most ardent desires,
Whose passion is like that of a flame feeding fires.
But alas, I accept that God tests us all,
And progress for me is crawling after I fall,
Nature, time and tears can alleviate all pain,
So I do my best to be soothed by the rain,
It falls so naturally and inspires such hope,
Hope which fadeth not but allows strength to cope.
For so long I fought the phantom of my past,
And I always thought that fate I could outlast,
My endurance was strong yet I conceded,
Bowing with acceptance yet remaining undefeated,
For my spirit is simply stronger from the pain,
Even if humility alone was my sole gain.
Through adversity we wilt or we grow,
And in growing we strengthen our soul,
But sometimes we wilt and ask God for a way,
Just a way, to make it through another day,
And God, though silent, hears all our prayers,
Sometimes sending an angel showing He cares,
That doesn't mean vicissitudes we will not suffer,
But God is merciful and pain makes us tougher.

'Through adversity we wilt or we grow' - - - - How true! This poem gives us all something to think about; a little nudge toward self-examination.
