Serving Absurdities Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Serving Absurdities

Burdened by greed.
And debts...
Increasingly deepening.
By college degree seekers.
From educational industries.
Soliciting dreamers to receive,
Their dreams.
Regardless if they may,
Become deferred by debts.
And disappointments,
To learn...
Employment and jobs to get,
May be a needle to find...
In a burning haystack.
To have been caused,
By climate change.
Long debated and gone denied.

Yet...
Nothing has prevented,
Taxes to climb higher.
Or the increase of interests...
On loans gone unpaid.
Done to do whether or not,
A college degree...
To have earned.
And hung to have it framed.
On a wall inside a home.
The bank has taken steps,
To soon repossess.

'This is absurd! '

'I don't disagree with you,
At all.
I know my opinion,
You did not ask.
However...
That frame you picked,
To display as is...
Your earned college degree?
If it had been me?
I would not have chosen,
Mahogany.
Customed made.
You had paid,
So expensive of a price.
To discover,
You have been determined...
Overqualified.
To flip hamburgers,
At a local...
Fast food restaurant! '

'And...
Believe it or not,
That was my first wish...
To want to do as a child.
But I had since then,
Been made convinced...
I should raise my aspirations,
Much higher.'

'Well...
The bank.
And the rest of your creditors,
Now know...
You have done this,
Successfully.
And to them you are indebted,
For the rest of your life.'

'Your comments?
Are they a validation,
Of my accomplishments.
Or not? '

'I'm just saying,
Be proud. Be you.
That frame you picked...
Will never be mistaken,
For your ambitious outlook.
With an achieving to keep,
Prioritized your beliefs.'
