Shades Poem by ronald stroman

Shades

Let me show you color:

colors unchained and set free.

Let me show you the color black:

without the influence of white.

Let me show you black-on-black:

minus the colors of crime.

Let me show you colorful children:

in beautiful shades of Louisiana brown,

& sugarcoated African-American.

Let me show you Jewels growing:

in East Point, Ga at Tri Cities High;

cultivated to grow like Diamonds at Dillard University,

that know that education is life's best instructor.

Let me show you Philly and colorful Atlantans:

from high places where one can fly;

like a Philadelphia Eagle,

or soar like an Atlanta Falcon.

Let me show you shades of America:

where blackmen & blackwomen,

are driven by colors of their ability,

and make an honest living.

Let me show you colors of black & beautiful:

that's not jim crowed or forced to sit;

segregated in designated places on the bus.

Let me honestly show you:

the African colors of;

the beautiful black You.
